Hurdy gurdy luthier siorat

I have been interested in traditional music and instruments, particularly the hurdy gurdy, for many years.

In 1967, my brother, my sister and I started an amateur group, "the Korrigans".

In 1972, while studying architecture in Strasbourg, I discovered lutherie and began building instruments.

In 1974, I settled in the Lozčre region with my group "Sauveterre" (hurdy gurdy, cabrette and diatonic accordion). There I set up my workshop and devoted myself to music and instrument building.

In 1980 I left "Sauveterre" to be able to devote myself to building hurdy gurdies.

In 1986, after building many copies of historical hurdy gurdies, I developed the first prototype of the Siorat Electro-acoustic hurdy gurdy with the gracious assistance of ANVAR (National Agency for the Promotion of Research) and the French Ministry of Culture. My work now is spread between building reproductions of historical instruments and the creation of contemporary electo-acoutic models.

At the request of the musician Valentin Clastrier, I created the first prototype of the alto electro-acoustic hurdy gurdy.

In 1991 I was honoured with the title "Master Artist"

To date more than 650 instruments have left my workshop...expoted in 13 countries

I would like to invite those who want to hear these instruments to go the the "References" page of this site where you will find links to the musicians who choose to play my in hurdy gurdies.

I hope that you enjoy your visit to my site, which I have been eager to create for some time, and which summarises more than 30 years of my work and passion for the hurdy gurdy.
